Authorities said a man died mysteriously while in police custody.
Portland police responded to a call about a violent man at Northwest 13th Avenue and Everett Sunday afternoon.
Authorities said the 42-year-old man had been in a fight and continued to be violent with responding officers.
Police arrested the man and were transporting him to jail when he started acting strangely and stopped breathing.
Officers performed CPR and called for an ambulance, but the man died.
Police said an autopsy should reveal if the man had a pre-existing medical condition.
